February 11, 2025 – Today, the North American Millers’ Association (NAMA) applauds the introduction of legislation in both the House and Senate to move the administration of the Food for Peace program from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). We thank U.S. Representatives Tracey Mann (KS-01), Rick Crawford (AR-01), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), David Rouzer (NC-07), and House Agriculture Committee Chair G.T. Thompson (PA-15), and Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS), John Hoeven (R-ND), and Roger Marshall (R-KS) for their leadership on this bill.
Through the Food for Peace program, American agriculture has set a standard for combatting international hunger for the past 70 years, feeding more than 4 billion people in more than 150 countries. More than 50 organizations support the proposed legislation that will ensure this America First program survives another 70 years and beyond.
“Our nation’s millers take great pride in feeding those facing famine emergencies around the world with highly nutritious grains. Our flagship emergency food aid program, Food for Peace, not only helps those abroad but is a critical component of Buy American and America First policies,” said Kim Z Cooper, Vice President, Government Affairs, North American Millers’ Association. “This legislation would allow Food for Peace to operate under USDA, and reinstate this critical, life-saving program.”
