NAMA Applauds Action to Avert Rail Shutdown

December 1, 2022 – Today, the Senate voted to send the tentative agreement struck between the railroads and union leaders to the president’s desk for signature.

“NAMA thanks the Biden administration and Congress for acting to prevent a rail shutdown,” NAMA President Jane DeMarchi said. “While we wish it had not come down to congressional action and that the two sides could have come to an agreement earlier, we are relieved that the milling supply chain — and ultimately, consumers — will not face devastating and costly disruptions.”

A wide range of agriculture and food industry stakeholders called on Congress to ratify the tentative agreement brokered by the Biden administration in September 2022. NAMA will continue working with industry partners, the administration, and policymakers to strengthen the transportation system and ensure timely delivery of household staples to consumers.
